If you own a pet that spends lots of time outdoors, heated pet water bowls may just be the solution you are looking for. Placing the pet’s water bowl outside during the winter months can freeze the drinking water and make fresh water unavailable which can be disastrous for your dog. Dogs need to drink water every day even when they are outside. So, it’s vital that they receive their drinking water daily that is accessible and not frozen. Water is a vital element to your dog’s overall health.

The heated water bowl will continue to provide fresh water for your dog up to 20 degrees below zero. Heated water bowls can be used for providing other outdoor animals with fresh water during the cold winter months as well.

How Do They Work

Depending upon the model bowl you purchase, most of them come with a thermostat which you can control the amount of electricity to keep the water warm and from icing up. As the outside temperature gets colder, you will need to adjust the thermostat accordingly.

They come with a steel wrapped cord which is chew resistant for safety. The length of the cords will vary from 5 to 6 feet. They do work with extension cords if needed. It’s recommended that if you have to use an extension cord buy a heavy duty outdoor rated extension cord. If you use an extension cord, be sure to have a standard 3-prong outlet for it.

Just plug the cord into any standard outlet and you’re ready to go.

The Importance of Water For Your Dog

All dogs need constant access to water. This helps them to be hydrated throughout the day. Dogs do not perspire like humans and water is being lost through the urine and feces. They also lose moisture through the cooling effect of evaporation as they breathe and pant to control body temperature on warm and hot days.

Daily Water Requirement

All dogs require 1-ounce of water for every pound of body weight daily. For example; a ten pound dog or puppy would need 10 ounces of water daily, which is about 1 ¼ cups.

Failure to meet this requirement, may result in the early death of your pet. If the dog’s moisture level is more than 15% deficient, he could die. This is how important water is to your dog.
